EQL Season 12 registration in a week

As reported three months ago, the 12th edition of European Quake League will be kicking off in September. The sign up procedure will start at the 1st of September (next monday) and end on the 20th of September.

There are really not much news to be heard compared from the plans that were revealed in May other than that the map discussion is going on in the QuakeWorld.nu forum.

Four years since QuakeWorld.US passed away

It is my firmest belief that the further existence of QuakeWorld get strengthened from having an American scene that not only would participate in the European leagues, but actually being able to host leagues and thrive on their own. The current state of the North American QuakeWorld scene is that it’s non-existant, but it has not always been like this.

It’s been almost exactly four years since the last American outpost in QuakeWorld, known as QuakeWorld.us, passed away because the administrator (Skelman) was most likely too tired of giving artificial breath to the fading community overseas.

The current state is something i believe the community over there could and should recover from with the right efforts put in place. There seem to be a dozen active players and a few others coming around from time to time, but they never have anything to gather around it seems. One good start would be a North American community website like QuakeWorld.US with a central IRC channel to gather around and a 1on1 tournament like Ownage arranged at least one time a year. Question is if anyone has the time, knowledge and dedication to do it?

Besmella-LAN this weekend

On saturday it’s time for some QuakeWorld action in Melbourne, Australia, as a LAN hosted by the guys behind Besmella-Quake takes place on this 5th of June.

The full list of attendants is not available but among the confirmed players are familiar names like Dirtbox, Mortuary and Venom (who recently won the ArchaicMSI Quakecon Qualifier in Quake Live).

Dirtbox revealed he is currently looking for someone to host QTV for them, so help out if you can so people can get a chance to see what the players down under can pull off under LAN circumstances.

EQL reveals future plans

The famous long-lasting European Quake League yesterday announced that they have more in the pipeline than just the ordinary league they are usually running.

Standard EQL

The usual EQL will of course be making a comeback after the summer, at the 20th September to be more specific. More information regarding maps and so on is revealed later.

Ladder

The famous 4on4 ladder system will be brought back from the dead, spanning a quite wide selection of maps; TB3, CMT1b-3-4, Schloss, Grim, e1m5, e1m6, e2m2, e2m7, e3m1, e3m2, e3m3, e3m6, e3m7.

The ladder will be played during the summer for the ones not going on a QuakeWorld summer vacation.

EQL Pro

A new tournament carries the somewhat controversial name “EQL Pro” and is aimed at the top four finishers in the standard EQL, as well as the four hottest teams in addition to those and these last four need to qualify for the tournament. This tournament will have a strict sunday schedule in order to make it possible to prepare good coverage in the means of streams, commentary and general journalism around the games.

QHLAN14 registration open

QHLAN14 logoSince a few days ago it is possible to sign up for what might become the best QuakeWorld event in this millennia as QHLAN organization has revealed that it will run its 14th edition during 4th – 7th November.

This time a serious effort is made to get as many QuakeWorld players as possible to this event in Haninge, Stockholm. A joint effort with the Hazard LAN, website and sign ups launched well in advance, a prize purse of 22,500SEK and a moved date will hopefully make this LAN a great success. In addition to this, the usual 1on1, 2on2 and 4on4 tournament will of course take place and some well renowned players and clans have already announced that they will indeed make it there!

A trick archive reminder

Some years ago the tricks.quakeworld.nu archive was created with the intention to host a complete collection of demos and instructions on how to perform all kinds of tricks known to mankind in the various DM maps in Quakeworld. If you visit the site you will notice that it is possible to search for and download demos from most of your favourite maps out there.

If you have a Quakeworld.nu forum account it is also possible to become a contributor to the site and start adding your own tricks, which is very simple and only takes a couple of minutes at most.

Check out tricks.quakeworld.nu or download all tricks from the site right away!

North American Quake League (2on2) sign ups

Today the brand new attempt at getting some gibbing going in the North American community known as the North American Quake League opened up their sign ups.

The league will be 2on2 and the games will take place on the perhaps slightly odd map pool DM2, ZTNDM3, A2 and Aerowalk, which might spice things up a bit.

Administrator of the league is Foogs and you can get in contact with them in #telefrag.ME on Quakenet (IRC).

Meshuggah knocks Fifi down to loser’s bracket

Yesterday the Ownage Round 4 game between Fifi (aka Marklar) and Meshuggah took place in a game that could be described as a pretty relaxed battle. The maps were DM6 and ZTNDM3 and while both maps turned out to be pretty close until the very end, both players played quite sloppy and invited the other player back into the game after unnecessary mistakes.

Fifi (Marklar) vs Meshuggah [0:2]
DM6 [19:25]
ZTNDM3 [7:11]

Meshuggah will now move on to face either Locust, Thunder, Numb or Ponzcek in winner bracket round 5 while Fifi will find himself in the loser’s bracket.
