Four gamers on QHLAN expectations

QHLAN13  is less than a week away and to see what the confirmed attendees themselves expects from the LAN i asked four of them a couple of quick questions.

Profiles

Medar; a Finnish player who plays in Clan Metally Troopers [CMT] but is also good in 1on1. Last QW LAN tournament he attended was Dreamhack Summer 2009 in Jönköping.

OK98; a Swede who, after having played several seasons under the Suddendeath tag, suddenly joined Oblivion for this season in EQL. A reliable player in the premiership of 4on4 who only plays 1on1 when under gunpoint. Attended Dreamhack Winter 2009 a month ago.

Locktar; another cheerful Swede who was crowned Dreamhack 1on1 champion last month after beating Nabbe in the final. By many also considered the favourite to win the 1on1 tournament on QHLAN.

Rikoll; a Norwegian travelling from the cold land in the west. Have been shaping up his 1on1 skills a lot lately. Got knocked out by Locktar in 1/16 final and by Murk in the loser’s bracket in Ownage season 2 tournament. This will be his first visit to QHLAN.

What are your expectations on QHLAN this time?

Medar: To meet everyone once again. To play such an insane amount of Quake that I’m sick of the game by the end. To watch the finals last night together with a bunch of sleep deprived Quake addicts.”

OK98: My expectations was to get 4 Oblivons to get to the LAN and play 4on4 24/7 on the LAN. And because I haven’t played so long time in [O] i havent met all of the members IRL yet. But because some members are away on trips and shit i guess just me and Lethalwiz will come to the LAN. I still hope that Nas comes too. :) I’m looking forward to se all the other quakers too, after 10 years or so most people know each other and i guess many from my old clan SD is coming and they are always fun. :)

Locktar: I have the same expectations as last time, a good tournament with good people attending!

Rikoll: I’m mainly going to QHLAN to actually meet face to face the players I’ve spent loads of time playing with on different servers. I’m taking the trip together with my buddy Trygve, who’s one of few remaining Norwegian players still left in the scene at the moment. I’m really competitive as well, so looking forward to the different tourneys, with main focus on the 1on1 tourney as it’s there I got the best chances of doing it good.”

How much have you prepared for the tournaments, and what is your goal set at? (played 24/7 to beat Paradoks?)

Medar: Unfortunately I have only been playing mixes lately, but I’ll try to get some duel practice going these last few days. The goal is, that afterwards I feel like I played well. That hasn’t really happened yet with these LANs though. :)

OK98: I have played a lot during this EQL season and I was in perfect shape during the last games. I haven’t played so much during chistmas but I guess I’m going to play some games during the next days. But because I suck in 1on1 and don’t have a 4on4 team i don’t really know what to play on the LAN. I guess me and Lethalwiz can practice our terrible 2on2 teamplay. :)

Locktar: I might play a little more before the day of the tournament, just to get the right mindset. We all know that beating Paradoks will never happen! Slowspawn is the only tip i can give, just to keep the fragcount low.

Rikoll: I haven’t prepared specially for the LAN tournament, but played quite a bit lately and the shape isn’t bad I think. Think I have a chance of reaching the final in the 1on1 tourney, and to do that I would of course have to beat Paradoks. :) Not an easy task, but I think I could pull it off on a good day.”

Who do you consider the favourite to walk away with the 1on1 trophy after this event?

Medar: Depends on who will be there of course, but no matter who shows up LocKtar will still be the favourite.”

OK98: I don’t even know who is coming, but i guess Locktar and Arnette are top players this year. It will be nice to se if Paradoks is in shape. I wish all players good luck! :)

Locktar: I don’t give a shit about the 1on1 trophy, i want the WARZON TROPHY!!!!!! Don’t stand in my way!!!

Rikoll: Locktar is by far the favourite to win, but players like Paradoks, Bps, Locust (is he coming?) and probably a few others have a chance, perhaps even myself?. :) Locktars nerves and routine are probably gonna turn it into his favour once more though.”

Are you attending QHLAN and have similar or perhaps opposite expectations on the LAN? Let us know in the comments!

QHLAN13 coming up

Although it has been pretty silent from the QHLAN crew lately and it feels like the hype around the LAN has been scarce, we will be in the middle of an action packed event filled with Quakeworld two weeks from now when the 13th installment of this classic LAN takes place. The best way to find information has so far been the forum thread on QHLAN13 where the admins have been revealing information about the LAN and answering any questions the participants may have.

Some notable players attending this event are the Slackers and rumors has it that they will be playing the EQL final against the Viper Squad during this LAN (with Slackers being on the LAN and tVS playing online). Other known players include Bps, Locktar and duel specialist Rikoll.

General event info
Location: Märsta/Stockholm/Sweden
Dates: 2nd to 6th of January 2010
Tournaments: QW 1on1/2on2/4on4

Stay tuned for more information on this event as it becomes available.

Welcome to Refragged!

A new site (re)opens its doors today and for some of you the name might ring a bell. That’s right, it’s the good old Refragged that dates back to 2003 or something, which then provided news on the hottest topics within the Quakeworld community.

This time the concept is the same. With little effort (thanks WordPress for the bakoffice and thank you Xantom for the WordPress theme) this site was setup to serve you news with focus on the competitive aspects of Quakeworld, both during online tournaments as well as during LAN tournaments like QHLAN and Dreamhack. The most weight will naturally be put on the hot shots in the premier divisions in the leagues and my wish is that if it’s not viable to provide coverage down to match basis, then at least a weekly summary from the main tournaments shall be done.

The motto of this site will be that content is king, but don’t expect any fancy features as that will most likely make you end up disappointed. I hope you will enjoy the content of the site and that you will be a faithful reader and commentator to our articles.
